"Burrowing Owl #1"
Burrowing Owls are very small & nest below the ground in burrows dug by fossorial mammals (ground squirrels, prairie dogs, etc) They spend much of their time before they can fly on the "mounds" and not far from their burrow prior to fledging! When they are on the alert, all they raise themselves up to is a maximum height of 12". Interesting little guys...
